We scan in 3D/4D from 16 weeks, but the best facial images are usually between 26 and 32 weeks, when baby has filled out and there is still room and fluid around the face. Later in pregnancy baby has less room, so clear facial images can be harder to get.

3D is a still image of baby with depth. 4D is 3D moving in real time, so you see yawns, stretches and kicks as they happen. HD Live, sometimes called 5D, adds a virtual light source for a more lifelike, skin-toned image. All three include the same well-being check.

We will ask you to have a walk, a cold drink and a bounce on our birth ball, then try again during your appointment. If we still cannot get clear images and your scan is between 26 and 32 weeks (24 to 28 weeks for twins), you get a free re-scan at one of our set weekday times within 10 working days.

Drink an extra two glasses of water a day in the week before, have a snack a couple of hours before you arrive, and arrive a little early for some water and a short walk to wake baby up. You do not need a full bladder after 12 weeks.

Yes. The twins HD Live scan is £125 with 20 minutes of scan time, or you can add extra 3D/4D/HD scan time for twins to another scan for £35. The re-scan window for twins is 24 to 28 weeks.

The £75 3D/4D scan includes 2 prints and your well-being report. HD Live, twins and VIP scans also include digital copies of your images and mini movies. Mini movies have no sound; the heartbeat can be recorded into a heartbeat bear on the day.

Sometimes. The placenta, the cord, baby’s hands and the amount of fluid can all sit in front of the face. The sonographer will try different angles, and the re-scan covers position problems between 26 and 32 weeks.

Allow 30 to 45 minutes in the studio. The scan itself is 10 minutes (20 minutes for twins), then you choose your images. If baby is being shy we may ask you to have a walk or a bounce on our birth ball and try again. Please arrive 10 minutes early: if you are late we may not be able to see you.

Yes. Family, friends and children are welcome. Every studio has a large scan room with an HD projector screen, seating for six and standing room.

Ultrasound has been used in pregnancy for decades and, despite extensive studies, has not been shown to cause harm to mum or baby. Our scans work on the same principles as your hospital 2D scan, and our scanning team follows the same safety guidelines.

No. Our scans are elective, non-diagnostic scans for bonding and well-being. They supplement your NHS care and do not replace your NHS 12-week and 20-week scans. If we see something on the scan that we think needs NHS follow-up we will tell you openly and make the referral.

What the NHS 20-week scan checks

You can move your appointment free of charge if you call the studio more than 24 hours before it. Cancellations more than 24 hours before are refunded minus a £5 admin charge. Within 24 hours the payment is lost, because the slot cannot be resold.

No. Our CQC registration does not cover scanning anyone under 18, so we cannot offer scans to under-18s.
